TURNER CO., GA (WALB) -

Turner County is one step closer to getting a new 911 dispatch center.

The Turner Co. Sheriff says commissioners have approved the first phases of the project. Sheriff Andy Hester says the center will be built next to the sheriff's office. Right now the center is down the road and having on property that's secure would make it more convenient. Sheriff Hester says an architect will be working on plans for the new facility this week.

"By it being on site here, it's a secure site," said Turner County Sheriff Andy Hester. "A lot of things could be shared by this agency and that agency, such as power and the phone services and things like that. The GCIC terminal that goes in and could be a hub here and shared by bother agencies."

He says they're still working on the entire cost of the project.
