VALDOSTA, GA (WALB) -

Lowndes Co. Sheriff Chris Prine says the Jeep Cherokee believed to have been taken and driven by Marvin Smith was located by Glynn County Police on Thursday of last week.

The discovery of the vehicle and eyewitness accounts led to the confirmation that Smith was in the Brunswick, Georgia area and he was arrested sometime following. Smith has since been picked up by Lowndes County deputies and brought back to Valdosta. He is currently in the Lowndes County Jail.

Marvin Smith will appear in the Lowndes County Magistrate Court for an arraignment hearing and will most likely be returned to the custody of the Georgia Department of Corrections after that hearing.

Original story-

Deputies and investigators from the Lowndes County Sheriff's Office are working with the Georgia Department of Corrections to locate Marvin Smith, an inmate who walked out of the Valdosta Transitional Center last week.

Smith was incarcerated following a motor vehicle theft conviction in Glynn County.

Smith is from Brunswick. He is 5'9" tall, weighs approximately 160 pounds, has brown hair with some balding and blue eyes.

"We're following up on leads. We've been interviewing inmates, other inmates, at the transitional center trying to gather information that might lead us to learn his whereabouts," said Lt. Stryde Jones.

If you have any information, call the Lowndes County Sheriff's Office at 229-671-2950.

A 2005 gray Jeep Grand Cherokee with Georgia tag: ACU 7690  was reported stolen about the time Smith went missing.
