VALDOSTA, GA (WALB) -

Community leaders in Lowndes County now have a better understanding of the work the Cancer Coalition Group is doing in the area.

The Cancer Coalition Group of South Georgia held a luncheon Tuesday afternoon in Valdosta to explain their work to help make cancer screenings more available to the community. They also emphasized just how big of an issue cancer really is in Lowndes County.

"For all cancers, the incidence rate in Lowndes is significantly higher than the state average," said Diane Fletcher, CEO of Cancer Coalition of South Georgia.
