A/C failure, heat force closure of Albany government offices

ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

The Central Square Government building, at 240 Pine Avenue in Albany is closing due to the failure of the air conditioning.

"Well from what I understand its absolutely unbearable in there so its probably been down for a while and of course its in the 90s with the heat index up to 100 so we can't ask our people to work in those kinds of conditions," says Assistant City Manager Wes Smith.

The closure is effective immediately. Officials said they will evaluate further closures if necessary.

This affects the following City of Albany offices:
Code Enforcement Department
Engineering Department
Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO)
Planning and Development Services Department
Treasurer's Office

Assistant City Manager Wes Smith said that if you need to do business with these departments, dialing 311 is an option between 8 AM and 5 PM, or go to www.311answers.com.

Smith hopes things will be back in working order on Tuesday.
