Grocery store changes come to an end

ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

More than a month of upgrades and changes at several dozen south Georgia grocery stores is now complete.

Winn Dixie stores on Old Dawson Road in Albany, Highway 19 in Lee County and in Americus reopened Friday as Harvey's Grocery stores after being closed for renovations this week.

Harvey's officials were excited by big crowds of shoppers. Jimmy Purvis said, "Our customers have been very excited. We've been very excited about the turnout we've had so far, and we would just like to welcome everyone in this community to come out and see our new Harvey's Supermarket."

All the recent grocery store changes in south Georgia over the last month or so were part of Bi-Lo Holdings buyout of Harvey's and Winn Dixie.

The Harvey's chain was started by Joe Harvey in Nashville, GA in 1950.
