Kayak launches proceed slowly

Posted: Updated:
ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

The wet weather this spring is delaying the building on three kayak launches on the Flint River.

Downtown manager Aaron Blair says high water levels on the Flint have delayed construction. The levels have gone down recently that have allowed work to resume.

Blair hopes one or all three can be finished sometime this summer.

"If water levels are perfect, we think we can complete all three launches in three months total. depending on how much we have completed already I don't really have an idea. it would be great by the end of the summer for one of them to be complete.  I think if the water levels stay low we should probably complete it," said Blair.

When completed, the kayak launches will be located at the Georgia Power Dam and two will be near the Ray Charles statue downtown.
