Thomasville police arrest suspect wanted in late night shooting

THOMASVILLE, GA (WALB) -

A Thomasville man is recovering after being shot late Tuesday night and police have made an arrest in the crime.

Police taped off this entire block of north Broad Street Tuesday night as they searched for a motive in the shooting of 35 year old Anthony Adams. Adams was shot once in the chin and also in the leg.

"Upon arrival on the scene, they did observe a male on the ground, who had been shot, and had gunshot wounds," said Lt. Eric Hampton.

Around 10:30 Tuesday night officers and EMS responded to a call in reference to man being found shot in the street near the United Methodist Church, and The Department of Labor building on Broad. A witness heard Adams' calling for help.

It only took investigators a few hours to gather enough evidence to take Jones into custody, it is believed that Jones and Adams we're familiar with each other.

At this time a motive is not clear but Adams underwent surgery Tuesday night and is recovering in ICU at Archbold Memorial Hospital.19 year old Tyree Jones is in jail facing charges.

"He is charged with aggravated battery, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime," said Lt. Eric Hampton.

Investigators are questioning individuals and doing their best to understand what exactly happened on this typically quiet stretch of the road in downtown Thomasville.
