CRISP COUNTY, GA (WALB) -

The Crisp County Sheriff's Office unveiled their new precinct in Arabi, part of the expansion law enforcement has been working on to help cut down on crime.

The idea of using the building was originally brought to Crisp County Sheriff Billy Hancock by Mayor Hucklebee, it used to be clinic but once it became vacant it was offered to law enforcement.

Officials say law enforcement is a huge expenditure to taxpayers so they needed to find a way to be more accessible to them and believes this is a way they can build strong bonds with residents. He wants to ensure that the people of Arabi understand that they are there to serve and protect.

"And we all know that visibility is a deterrent, so if we're sitting there and you know we're close, you don't know when we are going to leave that building or which way we are gonna go ride, then we provided a deterrent for crime in that area," Sheriff Hancock said.

But is also helps deputies that are assigned to patrol, rather than working entirely from their car, deputies will now be able to have a physical place to report, eat  and work in.

"It also gives us the opportunity that if were out and there is wrecks and we're here at this location. Then we can get to this wrecks that may be on the south part of  interstate a lot quicker and well as respond to any calls for service in this area," Crisp County Deputy Tammera Sears.

The deputies also say the building gives them more of a presence in the community.
