CORDELE, GA (WALB) -

A Cordele woman is accused of stealing money from her employer.

The corporate office of World Finance on 16th Avenue in Cordele contacted police about fake checks written out since April.

Investigators discovered 27 checks signed by assistant manager Sherry Rountree, ranging from $50 to $1,000.

"They were written to customers, but the customers had no knowledge of these checks being written and they were cashed in the branch and that cash, obviously went into whose ever pockets. We believe it was Ms. Rountree," said Det. Andrew Roufs.

Roundtree was arrested Friday and is charged with Theft by Taking and Forgery.

Investigators say they could file more forgery charges.
