School may be out for the summer, but hundreds of teachers are back in the classroom furthering their education.
More than 350 educators from around South Georgia are at Lee County Middle School West Tuesday and Wednesday for the Mathematics Summer Academies.
"Teachers have a chance to really take an in depth look at the content their teaching, but perhaps as important they have a chance to network with other teachers at their grade level," said Sandi Woodall, the Dept. of Education K-12 mathematics program manager.
Many educators plan to take the information they learn back to their schools.
"I look forward to it as a vertical piece so that my teachers can work together, not just be in isolation by grade level, but could learn from each other," Jenny Funderburk, Colquitt County Schools Curriculum Director.
This event is one of 7 the Department of Education is hosting throughout the state. It's funded through Race to the Top money.
