ASHBURN, GA (WALB) -

The Turner County Sheriff's Office confiscated thousands of dollars during a traffic stop on Interstate 75.

Sheriff Andy Hester says Pier Carter of Atlanta and three passengers were stopped northbound near exit 78 for speeding, going 86mph in a 70mph Sunday. The deputy smelled marijuana once he approached the car, which gave him probable cause to search.

During a search of the car the deputy found $15,000 in cash in the trunk of the rented black Chrysler 300.

"All indications is that it is drug money and were going to attempt to prove that it is. If they can show proof that its not, then we'll be glad to give them their money back," said Hester.

Carter was arrested and charged with possession of less than an ounce of marijuana. Hester say they were making a day trip from Florida back to Atlanta when they were stopped.

She bonded out of jail the same day.
