Officials stress safety following drowning

Authorities want to remind you to be safe while you're at the lake this summer after three people drowned in Lake Lanier this weekend. A man fell into deep water and drowned at Lake Lanier in Hall County Sunday.

In a separate incident a teenager drowned while swimming to retrieve a ball in the water. His father also drowned while trying to rescue him.

Crisp County Fire Chief Ray Lunsford says the most important thing to remember while you're enjoying the water is to be aware of your surroundings wearing life jackets,

Throw something to reach them Murky water; the dark waters are very bad. You can't see where you're going, especially underwater; it gets in your eyes. Not knowing the depth is important."

Chief Lunsford also says you should remember to wear a life jacket in deep waters or water vessels.

He advises not to mix alcohol with swimming and know your limitations when you're tired.
