Chehaw plans World Oceans Day celebration

ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

Children and their parents can get an up close look at some sea critters this weekend at Chehaw.

Sunday is World Oceans Day and Saturday The Zoo at Chehaw has a big celebration planned.

The second annual event includes hands on ocean themed activities, games and crafts.

The Gulf Specimen Marine Lab is bringing their educational travel exhibit that includes a touch tank.

"What we do here inland is going to effect all of these critters in the ocean. And sometimes being able to meet them and see them up close and personal gives you a better tie to the ocean, different animals and it makes us a little bit more conscious," said Jackie Entz, the Chehaw Education Coordinator.

Tickets for the Zoo will be $2 off Saturday and each ticket will come with a free train ride.

The Jekyll Island Sea Turtle Center and Flint Riverquarium will also have educational booths.
