The City of Cordele cut the ribbon on their sixty-fifth annual Watermelon Festival Friday.
The Watermelon Capital of the World is expecting about thirty thousand people to show up for the 30 events scheduled for 2014.
The festival started this morning and runs until June twenty-eighth. There are plenty of events for all ages to participate.
"We have over 30 events ranging from a seed spit contest, a chunking contest, dog show, a street dance, parade, arts and crafts, photo contest, and horseshoe contest," said Chamber President Monica Simmons.
The Watermelon Queen Pageant happensSaturday June 7, from 7pm – 10pm at Crisp County Middle School, 24th Avenue East.
