TERRELL COUNTY, GA (WALB) -

Terrell County Commissioners approved a new zoning ordinance for a proposed solar plant.

The controversial solar farm was a hot topic again during Wednesday's commission meeting. First Solar, a company based in California, is looking to build an 80 megawatt solar plant farm north of Bronwood off James Webb Road.

Wednesday, the board voted in favor of the development authority's recommendations on the new zoning amendments.

"Same thing that you have for any business. You have regulations if somebody wanted to put a new business up they have to follow certain criteria. And this happened to be a new business that's never been in this area," said Wilbur T. Gamble, the Terrell County Commission Chairman.

Some residents spoke out against the solar farm, citing health concerns and impacts on property values.

Supporters say it will bring jobs and millions of dollars to the county.
