Archbold Hospital sets national pace for Pneumonia prevention

THOMASVILLE, GA (WALB) -

Hospitals across the country will now follow the example of Archbold Memorial Hospital.

VHA Incorporated, a national network of community-owned health care systems, adopted the Thomasville Hospital's Ventilator Associated Pneumonia protocols for how to prevent pneumonia.

In a two year period, no patients at Archbold contracted Ventilator Associated Pneumonia.

"To be recognized nationally is amazing," said Critical Care Nursing Director Robin Godwin. "We are not competing against larger hospitals per-say, but we are setting the bar for what hospitals across the country are doing with ventilator associated pneumonia, and ventilator care in general."

Hospital officials say the recognition for efficiency could not have been accomplished without the entire hospital team working together on the shared mission of the hospital.
