Cordele preps for Watermelon Days Festival

The Watermelon Days Festival kicks off this week in Cordele. It's the oldest festival in the state. Cordele is known as the watermelon capital of the world.

Growers come from all over to sell their melons and other produce at the Cordele Farmer's Market.

Over the next few weeks the city will host dozens of activities with the main event taking place on Saturday June 28th.

"We have brokers and buyers that are staying in our hotels for a month. They bring their families and so they are spending money in hotels and restaurants," says Monica Simmons, President of the Cordele-Crisp Chamber of Commerce.

You can pick up a brochure with details on festival activities at most Cordele businesses.
