LEE COUNTY, GA (WALB) -

An elderly married couple have been released from the hospital after their vehicle overturned on Fussell Road in Lee County.

GSP Troopers say 74-year-old Samuel Whitaker and his wife, 71-year-old Brenda Whitaker, of Lee County were traveling North on Fussell Road when their Buick Lacrosse overturned into a ditch. It happened around 2:00 p.m. The couple was transported to Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital. Troopers say the couple had visible injuries to their arms and possibly back and neck.

"Basically the vehicle was traveling North on Fussell Road, left the roadway and ran into the ditch, onto the east shoulder and upon impact it turned over." said GSP Senior Trooper Darryl Benton.

Traffic was diverted off of Sapelo Rd and Archie Dr. in Lee County. The Lee County Fire Department  removed one of the doors to get the couple out of the car.

The Georgia State Patrol says charges are pending.
