THOMASVILLE, GA (WALB) -

A National Guard Unit returns home to Thomasville.

Dozens of people waited to greet the 1230th Transportation Unit home after serving a tour overseas for nearly a year. Residents lined the streets along U.S. 319 and hugged and kissed their family members as they arrived to Thomasville City School's football stadium.

"More than anything this means a lot to these kids that's been deployed and been gone for now 12 months," said Phillip Stringfield with the Georgia Army National Guard. "A lot of them have not seen family for over 12 months now and the support of our family members, this is why we do this."

The Unit was deployed in Afghanistan for 9 months.
