AMERICUS, GA (WALB) -

Americus Police are making sure that kids stay smart and away from gangs when they are out of school this summer.

Registration is under away for the Americus Police Department's G.R.E.A.T Summer Session.   Working with the Sumter County School System, the G.R.E.A.T program works to prevent kids from joining gangs.  Kids take classes at the Americus High School North Campus, go on field trips and are provided with lunch everyday.

"As long as they give us what we need and allow us to be positive role models in their life and the community, we take care of them," said Sgt. John Brown with the Americus Police Department.

The camp cost $50 per student and starts June 9th through July 18th. You can sign-up by calling 924-3677 or 591-6432.
