ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

It all started around eight o'clock last Friday when three men came out of a wooded area and loosened the bench that was bolted down to the sidewalk, and walked away.

Later that afternoon, a red pickup truck pulls up under the breezeway. The driver gets out.  Puts the bench in the bed of the truck and drives off.

The theft of a bench may not seem like a big crime but for church leaders it is the principal of stealing from a house of Worship.

"If someone will steal from a church, what about in our neighborhoods. And I'm aware we're having a lot of crime, and people stealing in our neighborhoods.  And that bothers me," said Pastor Billy Hanna.

The church is offering a $300 reward for information leading to the thief or thieves.  Church leaders would like to have their bench back as well.

You can call the church with information at 436-4021, or you can call CRIMESTOPPERS at 436-TIPS.
