AMERICUS, GA (WALB) -

The Sumter County Federation of Garden Clubs presented the South Georgia Technical College Foundation with a donation to provide a scholarship for a student enrolled in the Environmental Horticulture Program recently.

The winner, Marvin Smith of Oglethorpe, is currently attending school at South Georgia Technical College in the Environmental Horticulture program and is expected to graduate in 2015.

He is currently working in the horticulture industry and that is what inspired him to enroll in the South Georgia Tech Environmental Horticulture program.

"Marvin is a very conscientious student.  He takes school and work very seriously and I was pleased to be able to recommend him for this scholarship," said SGTC Environmental Horticulture Instructor Mark Collier.

The Environmental Horticulture Scholarship can be used for tuition, books, fees, tools, dormitory and cafeteria expenses.
