ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

The Albany Police Department will be accepting applications for its Basic Firearm Safety Course starting Monday.

 The Albany Police Department's firearm safety course will be held on Saturday, June 21, 2014 at 8:00 a.m. in the Law Enforcement Center Community Room. 

The eight hour class, which is open to citizens 21 years of age and older, will cover basic handgun safety, legal issues, and the handling skills needed to use a handgun for self-defense. Seating is limited.

Applicants will have to sign a release and authorize the Albany Police Department to conduct a background check to obtain any information relating to a criminal history record for the purpose of making a determination of eligibility for the course.  

Students will need these items-

 

A handgun (no shotguns or rifles)

Ammunition

Safety Glasses

Ear Protection

Ball Cap
