LAS VEGAS (FOX5) -

A judge set $1 million bail for a woman who was arrested in a case involving the shooting of her 11-year-old son on Memorial Day.

Shavon Carrillo, 31, appeared in Las Vegas Justice Court for her initial 72-hour hearing.

Carrillo, who was arrested on Monday under the name Shavon Aguilar, told police she was under an "extreme amount of stress" from a break-up when she used a rifle to shoot her son in the head while he was sleeping, an arrest report stated.

Carrillo was charged with attempted murder with a deadly weapon, two counts of child endangerment with mental harm and child abuse with a weapon.

According to documents, police were called just after 5 a.m. to the home of Carrillo's sister where she and her three small children were staying. The arrest report stated Carrillo moved in just a week ago during a break-up from her husband.

Carrillo's brother-in-law told officers she had shot her son with a rifle, the document stated.

The wounded boy was rushed to University Medical Center Trauma while his mother was transported to Las Vegas Metro police headquarters for questioning.

In the report, Carrillo told police she attempted suicide three months prior to the shooting. She also stated she takes methamphetamine and believed people associated with her husband were following her.

Carrillo told police she took a Lortab to relieve her stress before calling a friend over to the home. In the report, Carrillo said she owed the friend money and was afraid of the person, prompting her to retrieve a rifle in the closet of the home.

Carrillo stated she paid the friend when he arrived while keeping the rifle in a closet.

In the report, Carrillo said she picked up the rifle, still afraid after the exchange, and told detectives she was building up the courage to kill her children and herself. She told police she wanted them to be in a "better place."

Carrillo said she held the firearm level to her sleeping son, told him she loved him and pulled the trigger.

The gunshot prompted Carrillo's brother-in-law to awaken, confront her about the rifle and wrestle it away from her, the report said. Police were able to locate a .22-caliber rifle and a single tube magazine at the scene.

Police also noted in the report Carillo's other children – ages 2 years old and 9 years old – were sleeping in the same room where the shooting happened.

Carrillo was booked into Clark County Detention Center. A judge on Thursday appointed a public defender for Carrillo.
