Darrel Ealum endorsed by former county commissioner

ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

Democrat Darrel Ealum got a campaign boost in his quest for the District 153 State House Representative seat.

Former county commissioner Muarlean Edwards officially endorsed Ealum during a speech downtown Tuesday.

She believes Ealum shares a similar commitment to applying Project Shield on a state level.

The program aims to improve school quality and increase educational attainment.

"I decided to endorse Ealum because those persons who've supported me felt that he brought more to the table in terms of the kinds of things we want, for the persons that we serve," says former county commissioner Muarlean Edwards.

Project Shield operated a truancy program at Turner Elementary School in Albany from 2008 to 2013.

A run-off election between Ealum and incumbent Carroll Fullerton is set for July 22.
