BAINBRIDGE, GA (WALB) -

Drivers in Bainbridge will not have to drive too far to get their licenses renewed.   The city will soon have its own driver services office.

Next May the parking lot that once belonged to the Convention and Visitor's Bureau is expected to be full of Decatur County residents in need of driver services.

"The internal analysis that the Department of Analysis did showed that 50% of the people going to Colquitt were from Decatur County," said Communication Director Adrienne Harrison.

The nearest office for drivers needing their license renewed is in Colquitt in Miller County.

Raynard Rogers is one longtime Bainbridge driver who will be glad when the new center opens.

"You're saying to yourself, well I have to make that trip, which one and I going to go to. Thomasville is worst than the one in Colquitt, in Colquitt you may wait an hour, from start to finish but Thomasville, you might as well pack a lunch," said Rogers.

The new drivers license center will not only save time and money for local residents it will also be easy to find near the bypass.   "Now the 9,000 people that were going to Colquitt to do their license can do it right here at home," said Harrison.

But Rogers says before he's sold on the idea, some questions need to be answered. "How many days are they going to be open? Are they going to be open 5 days a week like in Thomasville, or are they only going to be open 2 days a week like in Colquitt?"

The office is expected to be a full time facility, which means more jobs could be headed to Bainbridge soon to assist with a convenience citizens will soon get to enjoy.
