DNR still monitoring waterways

Posted: Updated:
ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

The Department of Natural Resources wants people to continue to boat safely this Memorial holiday.

DNR rangers are out monitoring the boaters, conducting safety a check, making sure everyone has life jackets and the proper safety equipment on board.

"As the captain of the vessel, you should take responsibility in making sure these items are in your vessel at all times. Also want to check everyone is safely operating a vessel that is not under the influence of alcohol," said Eric White, ranger.

They say to also watch for other boaters and people that may be fishing or anchored along the waterways.

So far, the DNR has only issued two boating under the influence citations.
