ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

An Albany native is hoping to be crowned the next Miss Georgia.

22-year-old Reedi Hawkins is Miss Historic Southern Plains 2014. She's been preparing for several months to compete in the Miss Georgia pageant, which takes place in Columbus next month. Hawkins will be performing a jazz ballet routine in the pageant. She says she's proud to represent her hometown.

"It's always cool to even be involved in the Miss America organization, no matter what your title is. It means so much more when it really hits close to home and when you've really got a heart for the people that you're representing and for what you're doing and the community that you're involved in," said Reedi Hawkins.

Hawkins supports the Children's Miracle Network through the Miss America organization. The 70th Annual Miss Georgia Pageant is June 18th through the 21st.
