CORDELE, GA (WALB) -

The Crisp County High School baseball team is on the way to Carrollton for Saturday's state championship series.

Before leaving for north Georgia Friday, the team was honored at Yoasis Yogurt Shop.

A contribution was made to the team to help pay for their trip to Carrollton. The Cougars baseball team is playing in the state finals for the first time in more than 50 years.

"It's special. It's something that I been working hard for myself and got a great group of kids. They have put in the effort to get here," said Coach Bill Pate.

"Growing up everybody wants to go. I played with these people my whole life so that pretty much all we talked about since we were little," said Landon Whitman.

The team was escorted to Carrollton by the sheriff's department. The game is at 3 p.m. Saturday.
