CORDELE, GA (WALB) -

A Cordele business is coming to the help of a woman who has been battling cancer for four years.

Suanna Smith has been fighting colon cancer, and her community has stepped up to help her through this difficult time.

"I was diagnosed in October of 2010, 4 weeks after my little girl Annabell was born," said Smith.

She says complications started during her pregnancy.

"My appendix ruptured and I went in for surgery," Smith recalled. "Shortly after she was born I wasn't healing like I was supposed to. I had a colonoscopy and found a colon tumor."

Suanna's longtime battle against cancer is one reason why the yogurt shop Yoasis is holding a fundraiser for her and her family.

"Suanna and her family are a huge part of our community. We wanted to give back, said Yoasis owner Bridget Milani. "She has touched so many lives through her fight these last few years."

On June 2nd, Yoasis will donate 10 percent of the proceeds from the shop to the Smith family. Suanna says everyone in the community is supportive.

"They have gone above and beyond helping us. [From a] fundraiser and just calling and cards. Especially their prayers, because I know the Lord is hearing those prayers."

Suanna has her good and bad days, but she's going to keep the hope and keep fighting.

"I'm doing pretty good. I'm going through chemo treatments right now and that sometimes gets me down and a little tired. But she keeps me busy," said Smith

She hopes her battle with colon cancer can inspired someone else going through the same situation.

That fundraiser is from 5 to 8 p.m. on June 2nd at Yoasis in Cordele.
