Albany man sentenced to 3 years for robbery by snatching

ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

An Albany man is going to prison for a robbery that was caught on camera.

This surveillance video shows Keith Cobey snatching cigarettes from a shocked clerk at Flash Foods on Holley Drive in September 2010.  Prosecutors say he did the same thing at another store three days later.
During his trial, Cobey fired his lawyer and represented himself.  He testified he was using crack when he took the cigarettes, but said it was only shoplifting, not robbery by sudden snatching.  The jury disagreed.
The District Attorney said they are seeing a lot of crimes like this.
D.A. Greg Edwards said "Cigarettes is a readily disposable item on the street.  With good value in street value.  And that's why they are targeted."

Cobey was given a 20 year sentence, the first three in prison.  He still faces more burglary charges in Dougherty County from last year.
