LOWNDES COUNTY, GA (WALB) -

A state prison inmate and a former Department of Corrections worker charged in a jury phone scam in two states may face similar charges in south Georgia.

Sheriff's investigators in Lowndes County said they are looking to see if Covian Camp and Clarinda Carter were calling residents there and telling them they had to pay a fine or would be arrested for missing jury duty.

Camp is an inmate at Autry State Prison in Mitchell County. Carter worked at Wheeler Correctional Facility in Alamo, Georgia. So far, the two have been charged in New Jersey and Mississippi for posing as law enforcement officers and calling people to scam them out of money.

"At this point, we're not ready to identify anybody as a suspect," said Lowndes County Sheriff's Office Lieutenant Stryde Jones. "But, we're still followin' up on leads and checkin' into this and seeing if this particular person may be involved in some form or fashion with our couple of cases we have here."

Coffee County Sheriff investigators are also working to see if they will charge Camp and Carter in their jury phone scam cases.

Carter remains at Autry State Prison tonight. Camp waived extradited and is in the Bergen County Jail in New Jersey.
