Valdosta Police investigate stabbing

VALDOSTA, GA (WALB) -

A Valdosta woman is recovering Wednesday night after being stabbed multiple times.

44 year-old Artis Thomas, III has been charged with stabbing his ex-girlfriend, 38 year-old Tomika Jones, at her home in the 1800 block of Chestnut Drive around 5:30 Tuesday evening.

Police say the two got into a verbal argument shortly before the stabbing occurred. Thomas led police on a foot chase, but was caught a short time later. Children were present during the crime, but they were not hurt.

"I don't think there was very many stab wounds. A lot of cuts, but not as many puncture wounds," said Valdosta Police Department Lieutenant Aaron Kirk. "Once officers got there, EMS was called and they transported her to the hospital."

Jones has since been released from the hospital. Thomas faces multiple charges, including four counts of aggravated assault and misdemeanor obstruction of law enforcement.
