GRANITEVILLE, SC (WFXG) -

Folks in Graniteville grabbed their guns and shot for a good cause Sunday. It was the first Megiddo Dream Station Diamonds and Denim Day of Dreams shooting clay competition fundraiser.

Eric Dowling works full time for the Sage Valley Golf and Hunt Club, and Saturday he volunteered for the Megiddo Dream Station's fundraiser. Just a few years ago, Dowling said he hit rock bottom.

"Before Megiddo, I was unemployed for quite sometime - maybe about three years," Dowling said. "I was going through a rough time trying to support a family and bring in dividends as well, so it was really tough."

With no steady income, Dowling said he was struggling to support his wife and five kids.

"It's changed my life dramatically. It's been truly a blessing to be a part of Megiddo Dream Station," Dowling said.

Will Rogers, Chair of the Megiddo Station's capitol campaign, said people like Dowling are the reason they're raising money. They want to help as many people as possible.

"What Megiddo does is help people support themselves," Rogers said. "We have members of our community that have been out of work for whatever reason. This is something we can do right here in the CSRA to lower the unemployment rate."

Megiddo takes folks who've been unemployed for an extended period of time and provides them with vocational training and life skills in an eight-week program.

"The Megiddo Dream Station takes folks that want to provide for themselves," Rogers said. "They don't want a handout. They want a hand up, and we give them vocational training that's very thorough."

Dowling admitted that graduating from the program changed his life.

"I feel much better about myself," he said. "I'm not broke anymore. I'm not desperate to commit a crime because now I have a financial source."

He's hoping that they're able to raise enough money to help more people like him.
