DOUGLAS, GA (WALB) -

Commander Norman Blair presented an award to  Officer Daryl Glenn Leavens at the Coffee County Sheriff's Office.

Commander Blair said Part of the VFW mission is to serve our Veterans, the military, and our communities and to advocate on behalf of all veterans.

In serving our communities, law enforcement enters the picture. Annually we attempt to honor a member of your profession who exemplifies service to the community.  

 Daryl Leavens  has worked as a jailer. He Distinguished himself at the GPST courses, serves as a K-9 handler works with the Coffee County/Douglas Police Department Drug Interdiction Unit.

Last but not least, at great risk to his own life, he was instrumental in the recovery of a citizen who had fallen into a well but unfortunately did not survive. Leavens is a member of the VFW.  

Sheriff Doyle Wooten and his staff congratulate Leavens on receiving this award.
