ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

Republican gubernatorial candidate David Pennington met voters in Albany Thursday on a campaign tour through south Georgia.

He says its important to make visits throughout the region with low political enthusiasm shown across the state.

"We never voted in May before and it's already proving in the early voting that its going to be a record low turnout," Pennington said. "Being a person that nobody knew 10 months ago, you know, we are feeling very encouraged. We are getting good news all across the state."

Pennington has come out recently saying a Democrat could win the race if Republicans nominate Governor Nathan Deal again. He says Deal's shoddy ethics continue to drive his support down.

Pennington previously served as Mayor of Dalton.
