TIFTON, GA (WALB) -

Tift County will go purple to raise awareness about a serious disease.

Volunteers rallying against lupus and the city of Tifton came Thursday today to proclaim May as Lupus Awareness Month for the city.

Over 5 million people are affected by Lupus. Volunteers and survivors want everyone to wear purple for May and June as a part of the fight against lupus and finding a cure.

"There are so many people out there struggling and fighting this cruel mystery lupus in these communities. We're trying to show awareness where we want people just to put on purple," said Pat McKinnon.

Everyone in the Tift area community is encouraged to "Put on Purple" Friday to spread awareness of lupus. Click on the link for more information about upcoming Lupus Awareness events.
