Albany Commissioners are considering an ordinance that will allow the city to charge tow truck companies 20 dollars anytime dispatchers have to call a tow truck.
While we commend the city for looking for ways to generate income without raising taxes, we believe the 20 dollar fee is exorbitant.
The fee would generate roughly 80-thousand dollars a year in income for the city, but it's a burdensome amount for local tow truck company owners and the customers who would possibly have to absorb a portion of the cost.
We believe a smaller fee, maybe five dollars, is a reasonable amount to charge for making a phone call.
We hope Albany Commissioners will give this proposal serious thought before voting on it.
