Pipeline operators met with South Georgia first responders today to coordinate emergency plans in case of an accident.
Natural Gas and gasoline pipelines run through most South Georgia counties.
First responders, city and county administrators and engineers from more than a dozen South Georgia communities met with pipeline operators to make sure they're prepared for an emergency.
Paradigm Safety Trainer Larry Thomas said "We want them to have the opportunity to get acquainted with the sponsors. The pipeline operators. And by doing so get together a plan and work a mutual effort in any type of response that would be necessary."
Operators say the biggest cause of pipeline incidents is people digging near the pipeline without checking for clearance.
