STATENVILLE, GA (WALB) -

Georgia Native and movie star Ron Lester is preparing to head back to Dallas after spending much of Saturday in South Georgia.

Lester, best known as Billy Bob from the movie "Varsity Blues", was at the Echols County Carrot Festival Saturday. He took time to sign autographs and enjoyed visiting a part of the state he's never experienced before.

"The fact that I've never gotten to come down here before, even though I'm from Georgia, this is, except for the gnats, this is a highlight for me," Lester said.

Lester is originally, from Kenesaw, Georgia. He said he was also surprised to learn more about carrots.

"When I think of carrots," said Lester, "it's just a carrot, you know? And now, I'm findin' out that there's a lot more you can do with it. So, I think it's kind of interesting."

Lester is currently working on a movie called "Racing Legacy", about a 15 year old boy who fulfills his late father's dream of becoming a NASCAR driver.
