HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) -

Long-time Huntsville resident Jackie Reed got a special Mother's Day wish Thursday night.

She served as Honorary Councilmember at the Huntsville city council meeting. Her daughter bought it for her at the Huntsville Arts Museum's silent auction.

Reed has attended many council meetings as a gallery member, watching the city government tend to business from a short distance. She said Thursday's experience gave her a taste of what she still wants to do for real.

"I've been longing to sit up on that council for a long time," Reed said. "I'd like to sit up there and help make decisions for the City of Huntsville and help educate the people as to how the money's being spent."
