VALDOSTA, GA (WALB) -

The Valdosta Police Department has been working long hours this week.

"This past weekend was kind of unusual. [Investigators] did have several incidents that they had to investigate," said Valdosta Police Department Lieutenant Aaron Kirk.

But the crime wasn't just contained to the weekend.

Two shootings happened at 2533 Forrestwood Drive, one on Thursday and one on Friday. A man was murdered at the Park Chase apartment complex on Saturday. A man was shot in the neck during a drive-by shooting early Monday morning near the intersection of North Forrest Street and Park Avenue. And, a major search warrant was served at the Sugar Mill apartment complex on Wednesday. Four people were arrested, including two gang members with criminal records."

In all but one of these cases, the suspects have been arrested. "[I] Just think it goes to show that the people we have here at the police department, the diligent work that they do. Not only are they investigating these crimes, but they're actually comin' to a conclusion and then makin' arrests in these crimes," Kirk stated.

The latest arrests happened Thursday morning when Demarquez Bartee and Jacquez Gilbert were arrested during a traffic stop on Northside Drive around 3:20 a.m. Valdosta Police charged Bartee earlier this week with Aggravated Assault and Gilbert with being a party to the crime in the shooting last Friday at Forrestwood Drive.

Four other people were charged with obstruction in this same case last week. While police continue to work to make an arrest in the remaining unsolved case, they are hoping life on the streets will now return to their normal.
