ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

Women from Lowe's and the Albany Police Department are teaming up to build two new Habitat for Humanity houses in Albany.

"What we are doing here today is actually national women build week which goes on all around the United States for over three-hundred affiliates for habitat building and they send out women and staff and they are out here building," said David Wilson, family service manager for Habitat for Humanity.

One Lowe's employee has been volunteering for the past ten years and says her duties go beyond the doors of the department store.

"It feels great, it lets you know you are doing something for your community and a lot of times being a Lowe's employee we are stuck in the stores all day and it feels great to come out and help the people in our community with these homes," said Nicole Black, Lowe's HR manager.

Albany Police were also at the build site this afternoon, but their mission doesn't end once the house is complete.

"We look forward to that family moving into the house and I hope we can come back and patrol this area and see the grass laid out and see the tress in the yard and just feel some pride that we actually took some part in it," Captain Wendy Luster, APD.

One of the future home owners is a widow of a Marine and Captain Luster understands the impacts of losing someone in the line of duty.

"We know what that feels like, so anytime we can give back especially to a veteran that's a heartfelt thing," said Captain Luster.

Even though the blazing sun is making working conditions difficult, all the hard working women still had a big smile on their face.

If you would like to help with this project or other Habitat for Humanity opportunities you can call 446-8199 and ask for David Wilson, visit their store location at 717 Pine Ave Albany, GA or CLICK HERE
