Cook County Med. Center celebrates National Nurses Week

ADEL, GA (WALB) -

In honor of National Nurses Week, Cook County Medical Center in Adel took time on Wednesday to honor its nurses and all that they do.

More than a dozen nurses gathered in the boardroom at the medical center, where Adel's Mayor read a proclamation to announce that Cook County Medical Center, along with the National Nurses Association, had declared May 6th-May 12th as National Nurses week.

The medical center's department chair, Dr. Jairaj Goberdhan, also spoke at the event and praised the nurses for their work. Afterwards, cake and refreshments were served.

"Nurses are the ones that do things," said Goberdhan. "Nurses really carry out [the doctor's] orders. The nurses are the ones who is our second eye, lookin' at patients to give some idea if there's some change in somebody's status."

There are roughly 3.1 million registered nurses throughout the United States.
