More neighborhood watch captains needed

Albany neighborhood watch leaders are looking to expand their crime fighting efforts into new areas.

The Community Coordinating Watch Committee is looking for at least 100 block captains for areas not currently covered by neighborhood watches.

The Committee is an association of neighborhood watches throughout Albany and Dougherty County.

They say more captains can help cut down on neighborhood crimes such as car break-ins.

"It's not a hard job. It's a matter of getting your neighbors to join the groups and have periodic meetings and to have discussions with the police departments," said Dr. Charles Gillepsie.

The Committee meets the first Saturday of every month at the 10 a.m. at the Law Enforcement Center.
