DOUGHERTY COUNTY, GA -

Dougherty County Public Works Officials say a nearly 3 month long project to prevent flooding on a busy road is working.

After being shut down in early February Holly Drive is back open to traffic.  Crews elevated and widened the road and put in a new storm drainage system. They say the road handled heavy rain the last couple of weeks well.

"The structure worked perfect. I think that it showed when good engineering and planning come together it shows just what could happen. We're confident that we won't have the problem of this road being flooded in the future," said Dougherty County Assistant Public Works Director Chucky Mathis.

Public Works will elevate Honeysuckle Road soon. They also began a project today to widen Fleming Road to help handle traffic going into the Marine base.
