ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

Dougherty County and Albany City officials are asking you to thank public service workers this week.

For the first time, the county and city came together during Monday's commission meeting to proclaim this as Public Service Recognition Week.

They presented the joint proclamation to Albany State's Master's of Public Administration department.

"It is everything from law enforcement, to astronauts, to folks that really do things every day to support their communities and do public service that people just don't think about," said Dougherty County Commission Chairman Jeff Sinyard. "And it's really a way to give back to someone by saying thank you."

County Commission Chairman Jeff Sinyard says this week is a good time for all of us to thank those who work in public service fields.
