VPD investigating early morning shooting

Aaron Kirk Aaron Kirk
ABBEVILLE, GA (WALB) -

Valdosta Police are investigating after 22 year-old Corey Gee, of Valdosta, was shot in the neck area just after midnight Monday morning.

According to police, Gee was in a car with three other people traveling down North Forrest Street towards Park Avenue when another car pulled up beside them and fired multiple shots into the car Gee was in.

Gee then went to South Georgia Medical Center to be treated for his gun shot wound.

"[Gee] told officers that he and some others were travelin' in a car comein' up Forrest Street when another vehicle pulled up to 'em and fired several rounds at their car, striking him. He's expected to make a full recovery," explained Valdosta Police Department Lieutenant Aaron Kirk.

Kirk added that Gee told officers that he believed he knew who the shooter was and that the shooting was likely a result of some sort of verbal argument between Gee and the shooter Sunday night.

Police are working on obtaining an arrest warrant for the suspect.

"They're actively trying to find 'em now. If we can't find 'em, then we may put his information out there to try and get help from the public," Kirk said.

The suspect is currently facing four counts of aggravated assault charges.
