The Georgia State Patrol says that Phillip Mathis died this morning just after 1:00 when his truck hit a pecan tree.
Troopers say they are still investigating the single vehicle crash in which Mathis' 2008 Dodge pickup truck ran off Lamar Road, about half a mile north of Highway 280 in Sumter County.
Mathis, 51, was not wearing his seatbelt when he hit the tree.
