ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

Albany State officials are taking time this week to recognize public servants for their contributions to the community.

It's all part of National Public Service Recognition Week. Festivities today kicked off around town with several churches recognizing city and county officials. At the Government Center tomorrow a joint proclamation will be read in honor of the event. On Thursday, community leaders will participate in a panel discussion downtown at the Arthur K. Williams Microbusiness Enterprise Center.  This year's theme is "Proud to Serve."

"Public servants, those who work in Government from the local level, state and federal level..We help put those policies in place that our congressional leaders and local leaders establish for the well being of our society," said Veronica Adams-Cooper with Albany State University's Master of Public Administration Program.

The week was first established in 1985.
